Profile of Prof.D.Chandran

Dr.D.Chandran has the distinction of earning two masters degrees in Commerce and Library and Information Science securing gold medals in both for first ranks. The Sri Venkateswara University awarded him doctoral degree in Library and Information Science for the thesis entitled “The Planning in the Management of University Libraries in Andhra Pradesh’. His publications more than 150. He has been actively involved in organizing and participating many national seminars. He has edited five books and co-authored one book on ‘Information technology’ in Telugu language. He has prepared Course materials for the distance education programmes in Library and Information Science for Sri Venkateswara University, Tiruapati, Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad. Periyar University, Salem, Nagarjuna University, Guntur (AP), Andhra University. Visakhapatnam (AP) and many more universities across the country. He is an examiner, paper setter for more 20 universities and adjudicated more than seventy PhD theses. He has an in depth understanding of Library and Information Science, His research interest include User Studies, Information Seeking Behavaour, Library automation, database creation, digitization, computer-based information services,. Under his guidance and supervision, eight doctoral degrees and twenty M.Phil degrees were awarded and many candidates are working for M.Phil (Master of Philosophy) and Doctoral programmes.

He acted as Chairman, Board of Studies of his own department and Member of BOS of many universities in Tamilnadu. At present he is Chairman, BOS, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. Now he is serving a Head of Department, second time. He attended a number of national and international conferences and also chaired for the sessions. He has delivered guest lectures at a number of workshops in the universities and a resource person in a number of Distance education programmes., Academic Staff Colleges, Departments. He has been closely associated with professional bodies, like, ILA, IASLIC, ALSD, IATLIS, APLA, AGLIS, ABGILA etc. and actively participated in their programmes. Presently he is Vice President (South Zone), Indian Library Association (ILA) and served as Joint Secretary for IATLIS. His teaching and research relate mostly to the area of application of Information Technology in Library and Information centers, Library Science education. His active involvement in the university library’s planning for automation is another factor emphasizing his interest in the proposed research. The benefits of research would influence the proposed programme of the host institution so the grant of fellowship would benefit not only the individual’s study, research and teaching but also institution as a whole. He served as Chairman, Board of Studies and Head in his own department. Presently he is Chairman, BOS for the DLIS, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. He is a member of BOS of many universities in Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka. Currently he is working as Professor in the Dept of Library and Information Science, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
